Talking well, learning well: teaching oracy effectively for speaking, listening, reading and writing
The EEF found an ‘extensive’ evidence base for the positive impact that the explicit teaching of oracy skills has on pupils’ attainment in both reading and writing in KS1 and KS2: Purposeful speaking and listening activities support the development of pupils’ language capability and provides a foundation for thinking and communication. (EEF 2017)
Oracy is about learning to talk well, and learning well through talk. This course will focus on how oracy skills can be best taught and developed so that children become effective communicators, impacting their spoken language skills as well as their reading and writing.
